Today Elijah was reading the November Friend and he brought it to me and told me he didn't like the Friend anymore. I asked him why, and he opened it to the story A Positive Attitude about a little girl that had a disease that affected her hips. The story has pictures that show the girl wearing several kinds of leg braces. He told me that he didn't like the pictures because they made him sad. He told me that he thought that the little girl in the story shouldn't have been made with broken legs. I read Elijah the story and we talked about it. He decided that it was okay that the girl had to wear braces, and he liked that she was still happy and able to rollerskate, despite her limitations.
I love how sensitive and perceptive Elijah has always been. As he has gotten older though, it has become harder and harder to shelter him from the world. I have been trying to adjust to Elijah going to school everyday, instead of him being home where I can control everything. The thought of anyone or anything making him sad is very hard. I want him to stay as innocent as possible for as long as possible. I do realize that I can't protect him forever and because of that, I am grateful that Elijah has a strong family, both immediate and extended. It is a relief to know that he will always be taken care of. I am also grateful that Elijah has the gospel in his life and that he will always have the guidance and the comfort that comes from that. I am grateful for the knowledge that the gospel has given me that helps me be Elijah's mom. I am especially grateful for that knowledge when Elijah asks me questions like: "where does our spirit go when we die?", "why do we bury our bodies in the ground?" and "why does Heavenly Father let people get hurt?" I can't believe he thinks about these things at 4. When I was 4 I was concerned about whether or not I could out skip Erin with our Skip-it. I guess this proves he takes after Dustin, who I think has always been a serious scholar. LOL
Liz (aka Fef) and Dustin (aka Funshine) were married September 16th 2006. Over the years Elijah, Embry, Gideon, and most recently Evelyn have joined our family.

Standing...
This week, Gideon has decided that he can stand. He is very proud of himself! His new favorite thing to do is to play music table. I think Santa is going to need to get a walk behind toy for Gideon for Christmas!

Emme's Hair
The last few months Emme's hair has gotten to be really long. This is both exciting for me and scary. She and I have been trying different hairstyles, and this is one of our new favorites. I definately think that it suits her goofy personality!

Gideon's Quilt
My Grandma Dexter is amazing. We have been blessed to have had 3 beautiful quilts made by her. I have one that she made me for my baptism, one she made for Dustin and I when we were married and one that she made for Elijah when he was born. Today in the mail Gideon received a quilt that she made for him. It is the most creative, unique and beautiful quilt that I have ever seen! I spread it out on the floor and put Gideon on it, and he laid there for about 10 minutes just petting it and staring at it. From the smile on his face, I think you can tell that he LOVES it! Gideon says thank you and sends a huge hug to his GG Janet! I love you Grandma Dexter! You are the best!

Happy 7 Months
7 months ago this little guy joined our family. In the last 7 months Gideon has grown so much...
Gideon can sit by himself like a big boy now...
when he isn't trying to be on the move, which is all of the time...
Gideon has gotten even more adorable as he has gotten older...
and thankfully he has stayed just as sweet and happy as the day he was born. We have been incredibly blessed by having our little Gideon in our family! He truly is a ray of sunshine in our lives.

Gideon's New Trick
Gideon has discovered the blinking power button on the surround sound. His new favorite thing to do is to crawl to the tv stand and push the blinking button which turns off the surround system and the tv. Emme gets so annoyed at him and she always tells him "no baby Dideon, no!" Too funny!

All About Me
Elijah was chosen to be the Student of the Week at school this week. His teacher sent him home with a blank About Me Poster, and on Friday he very excitedly filled it all out. On Saturday the kids decided that Emme needed to have an About Me poster too. Here is a picture of the results...

GI Joe
Gideon has not quite mastered crawling, but he can do an awesome GI Joe crawl. He loves when the big kids are napping, because then their toys are fair game. Gideon especially loves the Transformer toys. He will GI Joe across the living room to get to them.
